Rules of the World Master Competition

  • Boats used in the competition are Sulkava long boats (also known as Viking boats). The boats must comply with the current equipment rules of the Finnish Rowing Federation.
  • Competition is open to teams of all countries. A single country can have several teams in the competition.
  • Teams consist of 15 crew members (cox + 14 rowers). A crew can include both men and women.
  • If necessary, the organisers will provide the team with a Finnish cox.
  • There are two separate races : a 2000 metre race and a 60 kilometre race.
  • In the 2000 metre race, all teams must first row a qualification race against the clock. In the qualification race, teams row the 2000 metre course one by one in random order, starting every two minutes. Based on the qualification results, the five fastest teams will qualify for the final.
  • The 60 kilometre race is a mass start event.
  • The three best teams in both competitions will be awarded cash prizes and medals.
  • The organisation also presents an award to the best team (based on final results) which has participated in both events (2000 metre and 60 kilometre) with the exact same crew. If two or more teams finish with the same ranking points, the results of the 60 kilometre race will determine the winner.
  • All teams will receive participation medals and diplomas.
  • This competition is not an official FISA (International Rowing Federation) event.
